Margaret G. Wehman has a BA Degree from Winthrop University and a MEd Degree from the College of Charleston. Since receiving her teaching credentials, she has had a diversified teaching career. Her teaching career spans gifted and talented education, academic classes both in the private and public sector, graduate level courses in math, along with creative writing and visual arts. She has taught K3 through graduate level classes and has worked as a creative writing artist in residence for the Dorchester District Two’s summer GATEWAY program. Mrs. Wehman has published units for Gifted and Talented education along with books on writing and speaking for the classroom. She holds seven certifications from the South Carolina State Department and has 39 years of experience in the field of education. She is a SCISA Master Teacher and has been recognized in Who’s Who in American Women and Who’s Who in American Teachers.
Debbie Philips is currently an educator in Dorchester 2 school district. She has been involved in education for over 24 years in public as well as private school settings. She holds a Master’s degree with 30 hours above that level. She has certifications in four areas. Years ago she partnered with several others who had a heart for Christian education and began a small Christian school. She and her husband have lived in the Summerville area for over 30 years. They are privileged to have two daughters and six grandchildren. She and her husband Charlie attend Crossroads Community Church. Charles F. “Charlie” Philips, Jr. came to know the Lord in his life at 17 and was involved in Methodist, Non-denominational charismatic and Baptist churches for most of his faith walk. He has been an active member of Crossroads Community Church since 1991 and was appointed an elder in 2003. His primary functions at the church have been as Bible teacher, and financial counselor advisor. He currently resides in North Charleston. His educational experience includes a BA at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and MA at The Citadel. He also holds a teachers certification and taught secondary education for three years in Savannah, Georgia. He and his wife Debbie have been residents of the Summerville area for more than 30 years and have taken a great interest in education during that time. He is currently employed as a historian at Brockington and Associates, a cultural resource corporation in Mt. Pleasant.
Genie Gore holds a bachelor’s degree plus 18 years in elementary education with a minor in math with an endorsement in gifted and talented education. She has taught elementary and middle school students for 29 years in the Dorchester School District Two public school system and recently is in her second year at Pinewood Preparatory, which is a private school. Genie has held several Dorchester School District Two positions such as District Writing Coordinator for grades first through twelve and as an APT Evaluator of teachers. She has published curriculum which has been used in many schools in the state and is now being used at Pinewood Preparatory. Her teaching career has included regular classroom instruction, gifted education, theatre arts, and teacher in-services. She has been awarded many SC state grants for her instructional units and has been a presenter at the South Carolina Gifted Consortium, District Writing Conferences, and Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Teacher’s Sorority Conference. Genie has held all local chapter offices in ADK, as well as just completing her term as president. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Dorchester County Alcohol and Drug Commission where she has served for 20 years. Genie loves to teach Bible studies and enjoys teaching special classes at Crossroads, where she has been at member for 13 years.
Mary Gardner has been a Dorchester District Two employee for 16 years. She was a counselor at Newington Elementary school for the first 15 years of her career and is currently at Spann Elementary School. In 1973 Mary graduated from Columbia College, where she received a BA in elementary Education. For the next 18 years she was blessed to be able to stay at home where she practiced her teaching skills on her 2 girls and with the youth in her church. In 1994 Mary answered the Lord’s call to be an elementary school counselor and began a Master of Education degree in elementary school counseling at The Citadel. She graduated and began her new career as a counselor the summer of 1995. Mary is a member of the SC School Counselor Association, Tri-County Counselor’s Association and Palmetto State Teacher’s Association. She is an accredited provider of the Primary Care Triple P Parenting Program and a certified trainer for Darkness to Light. In 2008 she was selected as Newington’s Teacher of the Year. Mary has enjoyed being a member of the worship team at Crossroads and is currently serving on the Missions Committee. When she’s not on the road to visit her 2 girls and 3 grandchildren, she is flying to other countries to do missions work. In her spare time (ha, ha) she enjoys reading, gardening, and traveling.
